If you were to ask an obese person, “How is your energy level and do your consider yourself a productive person every day in your personal and work life?” Many would answer a hardy, “Yes.” According to the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases, “Overweight and obesity result from an energy imbalance in the body.”
Most employees know that it is unlawful to discriminate anyone against obesity. Many employers do discriminate, but would never testify to this fact. Common sense says that if an employer interviews an employee who presents a physically fit stature and looks healthy versus another employee who is obese, the person who is obese would not win the job interview. Whether we care to admit this or not an obese person generally carries with them an element for lack of motivation. This conveys to others around them that they have no control in their life.
If a person says that they are perfectly happy being obese the chances are high that they are kidding themselves and every other person. If an obese person claims to be energetic and productive this may be the case, however, it will not be an energy level or level of productivity that it could be if they were to improve their lifestyle and commit to losing weight. If a person, who is showing a weight within their ideal body weight range of 140-pounds, carries around with them a 30-pound back pack all day, including up and down stairs, they would not have the same amount of energy or productivity as they did when they carried around their ideal body weight of 140-pounds. Keep this test in mind when losing weight. For every pound, lost put the pounds in a bag, backpack or whatever, just as long as you can carry the weight lost all day without putting it down. He or she will experience more tiredness and be less productive during the day.
Complications of Obesity
- There is a lack of motivation in personal and work life.
- Serious health problems such as diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, high cholesterol, cancer, sexual issues, fatty liver, arthritis, skin diseases, respiratory problems such as shortness of breath, insomnia, sleep apnea.
These characteristics of obesity decreases productivity in all facets of life. No one should kid himself or herself into thinking that they have an excellent quality of life being obese. Just 30-pounds over an ideal body weight constitute obesity. Just carrying out routine life when he or she is obese does not come as easy, as for the person who is not obese. An obese person experiences job discrimination, it happens every day, but is a hard fact to prove.
